Prioritising Safety and Compliance
Our Commitment to Safety
At ABOVE GROUND SURVEYS, the safety of our surveyors and the integrity of your property are our highest priorities. Every roof survey or leak test we conduct adheres strictly to the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and our comprehensive insurance requirements.
Ensuring Proper and Secure Roof Access
Safe Access Requirements
To conduct a thorough and safe roof survey, we must have proper access to your roof. Please note that non-fixed ladders are not acceptable for both insurance and safety reasons. This includes domestic ladders, extension ladders not properly secured, or any temporary access solution that doesn’t meet current safety standards.
Acceptable Access Methods
We utilise the following safe access methods

Fixed Scaffolding
- Erected by NASC-registered scaffolding contractors
- Complete with proper guardrails, toe boards, and secure access points
- Required for most pitched roofs and multi-storey properties

Tower Scaffolds
- Professionally assembled by our PASMA-certified team
- Used for lower-level roofs where appropriate
- Includes all necessary stabilisers and guardrails

Roof Ladders
(With Secure Access)
- Only used in conjunction with properly secured access ladders
- Fitted with ridge hooks and stability devices
- Used only on suitable roof pitches as determined by our risk assessment

Internal Access
- Via properly installed loft hatches and roof windows
- Used for underside roof inspections and internal leak investigations
- Compliant with all safety regulations
What This Means for Your Survey
Prior to booking your roof survey, our team will discuss access requirements for your specific property. In some, but not often cases:
- We may request photos of your property to assess access needs
- A preliminary site visit may be required to determine the appropriate access method
- Scaffolding may need to be arranged in advance (we can recommend approved contractors)
- There may be additional costs for specialised access equipment
