Project Overview
Large Industrial Warehouse Roof Survey
A comprehensive drone-based roof survey was undertaken on a substantial industrial warehouse facility with a total roof area exceeding 24,000 square metres. The survey was commissioned to assess the overall condition of the roof, record any potential defects, and inform ongoing maintenance planning.

Drone Roof Survey for 24,000m² Logistics Hub
Site Details

- Property Type: Large distribution warehouse and logistics hub
- Roof Area: Approximately 24,000m²
- Location: Kent
Survey Objectives
- Provide a high-resolution visual record of the entire roof surface
- Identify areas of damage, deterioration, or potential water ingress
- Reduce inspection costs and health and safety risks compared to traditional access methods
- Supply actionable data to support facilities management and asset maintenance planning

Methodology
Using a professional-grade UAV (drone), the survey was completed safely and efficiently without the need for scaffolding, cherry pickers, or rope access. High-resolution orthomosaic imagery and oblique photographs were captured, offering full visual coverage of the roof structure.
SAVE TIME, SAVE MONEY
Key Benefits:
Faster, safer, and more cost-effective than traditional roof inspections — with zero disruption to site operations.
Significant Cost Savings
Traditional scaffolding or mechanical access equipment for a roof of this scale would involve substantial costs—often exceeding tens of thousands of pounds in setup and labour.
Minimal Disruption
Drone operations were conducted outside peak site hours, causing no interruption to warehouse logistics or vehicle movements.
Enhanced Safety
No personnel were required to work at height, eliminating fall risks and reducing the overall project hazard profile.
Rapid Turnaround
The survey was completed and processed in a fraction of the time required for manual inspections.
The high-resolution imagery enabled detailed assessment of:
- General roof condition and material wear patterns
- Rainwater drainage systems and guttering
- Roof penetrations and fixings
- Areas of debris accumulation
- Early signs of corrosion or weathering
This project highlights the value of drone surveys for large industrial sites. Drone technology delivers comprehensive, cost-effective roof inspections while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency. For facilities of this scale, drone surveys present a highly effective alternative to conventional access methods.
