Drone Security Patrols
Day & Night Site Security Surveillance
Above Ground Surveys now offers professional drone-based security patrolling, giving businesses, construction sites, estates and event organisers a faster, more flexible way to monitor large or hard-to-secure areas — around the clock.
Using the latest DJI Matrice 4T enterprise drone, our CAA-approved, qualified and experienced pilots carry out scheduled and ad-hoc aerial patrols to detect intruders, unauthorised vehicles, trespassing and other security incursions — day or night, in conditions where ground patrols and fixed CCTV often fall short.
Whether you need routine overnight perimeter checks, rapid response to an active alert, or covert overwatch for a high-profile operation, our drone security service delivers a level of coverage, speed and detail that traditional security methods can’t match.
Smarter Surveys, Better Results
Why Choose Drone Security Patrols?
See further, see faster
A single drone flight can cover ground it would take a security patrol vehicle or foot patrol far longer to check.
Thermal and low-light vision
Detect people, vehicles and heat sources in complete darkness, dense foliage, or through smoke and poor visibility.
Rapid deployment
Drones can be airborne within minutes of an alert being raised
Non-confrontational monitoring
Assess a situation from the air before committing personnel on the ground.
Evidential quality imagery
High-resolution stills and video suitable for incident reports, insurance claims or handover to police.
Cost-effective coverage
Reduce reliance on multiple static cameras or large numbers of patrol staff, particularly across large or open sites.

Accurate. Certified. Nationwide.
Built for the Job: The DJI Matrice 4T
Our drone security patrols are flown using the DJI Matrice 4T, one of the most capable compact enterprise drones available, purpose-built for security, surveillance and public safety operations.
The Matrice 4T is not waterproof, and DJI advises against flying in the rain — our pilots plan patrols around weather conditions and site access to keep operations safe and effective.
This combination of thermal imaging, long-range zoom and AI-assisted detection means our pilots can identify and assess activity from a distance, without alerting whoever — or whatever — is being investigated.
Key specifications:
640 × 512 radiometric thermal camera
640 × 512 radiometric thermal camera with Super Resolution mode (up to 1280 × 1024) — detects heat signatures from people, vehicles and hotspots, day or night, even through smoke, foliage or darkness
112x hybrid zoom
112x hybrid zoom across three visual cameras (48MP wide, medium telephoto and telephoto) — allowing positive identification of individuals, vehicles and number plates from a safe distance
NIR (near-infrared) auxiliary light
NIR (near-infrared) auxiliary light — illuminates subjects in total darkness for clear low-light visual identification
Laser rangefinder with a measurement range of up to 1,800 metres
Laser rangefinder with a measurement range of up to 1,800 metres (under optimal, unobstructed conditions) — pinpoints GPS coordinates of a target or incident for precise reporting and follow-up
Up to 49 minutes flight time per battery
Up to 49 minutes flight time per battery (manufacturer-rated, no wind, standard propellers) — enabling extended patrol windows with minimal downtime between flights
O4 Enterprise video transmission
O4 Enterprise video transmission, with a maximum unobstructed range of up to 12km in the UK/EU (CE) — real-time video feed even on large sites or estates
AI-assisted object detection
AI-assisted object detection to help identify people, vehicles and other objects during patrol
RTK-enabled positioning and omnidirectional obstacle sensing
RTK-enabled positioning and omnidirectional obstacle sensing — precise, reliable flight even in complex or built-up environments
Our Drone Security Patrol Services
Scheduled aerial sweeps of site boundaries, fence lines and access points to identify breaches, damage or attempted incursions before they become a bigger problem.
Rapid drone response to suspected trespassing, unauthorised access or reported disturbances — assessing the situation from the air before security personnel are deployed on the ground.
Full thermal and NIR-assisted patrols after dark, when most incursions and site security incidents occur. Detect people and vehicles that would be invisible to the naked eye or standard CCTV.
Thermal imaging identifies heat sources across a site — useful for locating individuals concealed in vehicles, undergrowth or buildings, as well as spotting fire risk hotspots on industrial or waste sites.
Regular or one-off patrols of vacant buildings, development sites and construction compounds, where theft, vandalism and unauthorised access are a persistent risk.
Our pilots have supported high-profile security operations, providing aerial overwatch, crowd monitoring and rapid situational awareness for organisers and security teams.
On-call drone deployment in response to triggered alarms or reported activity, giving security teams eyes in the air within minutes rather than waiting for a patrol vehicle to arrive.
Qualified, Experienced and CAA-Approved
Above Ground Surveys is a CAA-approved drone operator. Our security patrol flights are carried out by qualified, experienced pilots with specific training and track record in security and surveillance operations — not general-purpose drone operators.
We plan every patrol in line with CAA regulations, airspace restrictions and site-specific risk assessments, ensuring flights are safe, legal and unobtrusive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The thermal camera on the Matrice 4T detects heat signatures from people and vehicles in complete darkness, independent of visible light — and the NIR auxiliary light adds clear visual identification in low-light conditions.
Yes. Above Ground Surveys is a CAA-approved operator, and all patrols are flown within current drone regulations, with appropriate risk assessments and airspace checks carried out before every flight.
With a flight time of up to 47 minutes per battery and a video transmission range of up to 12km (UK/EU), a single drone can cover large sites, estates or boundary lines far more quickly than a ground patrol.
Yes. Imagery and video captured during patrols is high-resolution and GPS-referenced, making it suitable for incident reports, insurance claims or handover to police where required.
Yes. We offer both scheduled recurring patrols and rapid-response, on-call deployment for triggered alerts or suspected incidents.
